Wildlife Kayak Tour of the Smith & Bybee Lakes Wetland Natural Area

Price: $89.00

Time: 12:30pm – 4:00pm

Dates: TBA

Hidden among port terminals, warehouses and ageing industrial developments, lies one of the region’s best-kept secrets- Smith and Bybee Lakes. This 2,000-acre wildlife reserve is home to beavers, ospreys, bald eagles and dozens of other bird species you’ll be surprised to encounter just 10 minutes from downtown Portland. Smith & Bybee Lakes Wetlands Natural Area is the largest protected urban wetland in the nation. This trip will be led by the world-class guides and naturalists of eNRG Kayaking. An introductory lesson will start the day for anyone unfamiliar with recreational kayaking. As we paddle through a series of inter-connected slough, waterways and lakes our naturalist will narrate the habits, routines and lifestyles of the creatures we encounter. River otters, nutria and black-tailed deer are common to the area. Over 100 species of birds have been observed here. Additionally, Smith and Bybee are home to a large population of the threatened Western Painted Turtle. We will travel through a unique wilderness area, watch the great wildlife of Pacific Northwest and experience the family-friendly sport of kayaking. Join us for a great afternoon on the water! No prior experience required. Kayaks, Paddles, PFDs and Clif Bars provided.

Take I-5 to west N. Marine Dr. (exit 307). (If you’re going north on I-5, the exit road continues for about 1 mile before a right turn onto N. Marine Dr.) After about 2 miles on N. Marine Dr., you’ll be on an overpass from which you can see Smith Lake to the left. At the bottom of the overpass, look for a brown and white sign with “Smith and Bybee Lakes Wildlife Area”.  Turn left into the driveway and proceed about 1/8 mile to the parking lot on the left.

To continue to the non-motorized boat launch site: Proceed past the parking lot, continuing for about 1/4 mile to the boat launch on the right.  Parallel parking is available on the non-lake side of the roadway.

3-Day Lower Deschutes River Kayak Adventure

Price: Depends on size of group and dates

Time: 3 Days

Dates: TBA

This three-day Deschutes trip from August 22 to the 24th is our all-inclusive kayaking trip for beginner to intermediate kayakers. Our group will run through Oregon’s high desert canyons on one of our Nation’s Wild and Scenic Rivers from the Buckhollow (just below Sherars’ Falls) all the way down to Heritage Landing on the mouth of the Columbia River. Over this 43-mile stretch, we will work on scouting and running class I to III rapids including Wreck Rapids, Macks Canyon Rapids, Washout Rapids and Colorado Rapids – some of the rivers finest whitewater. (For beginners, difficult rapids can be portaged or floated with ease on top of our accompanying 14’ gear raft.)

View BLM’s Deschutes River Map at http://www.boaterpass.com for more details on this stretch of river. (Once on BLM’s site, click on “The River” and view Maps 6-10.) We’ll play hard and practice executing the paddling techniques we’ve worked so hard to develop all spring and summer! This is where your hard work really pays off. Our 4:1 student/teacher ratio will allow for intimate instruction throughout the entire trip. In the evenings we’ll have a chance to explore some of Central Oregon’s desert features by foot…if you’re not too exhausted from paddling…before you can relax in front of a freshly prepared meal.

This three-day trip includes gourmet river meals prepared with local foods from the region – organic and hormone-free when available. Because we maintain close relationships with all of our students, we can also customize meals according to special diets. Camping gear can also be arranged if needed.

Price includes: World-class guides, on-water instruction, all meals, shuttle, kayaking gear (if needed), camping gear (if needed), and transport for all of our gear down the river. Contact us if you have any questions or you’d like to sign up!

Skookumchuck Ultimate Surfing Trip

Price: $1100.00 (includes transportation in Canada, food, accommodations, sea kayak tour, and more)

Time: TBA

Dates: 2011 TBA

Join eNRG kayaking as we adventure to the Skookumchuck Rapids in Vancouver B.C to surf “the Skook,” one of the world’s best play waves, located just off the remote and scenic Sunshine Coast. The “Skook” is formed by an incoming tide flowing over a rock shelf that generates a standing wave that gradually builds in intensity, giving beginner play boaters an excellent opportunity to surf the wave at gentler levels. When not surfing to your heart’s content, enjoy the sea village of Egmont and the surrounding area. Dine on fresh sea food, explore the surrounding waters by sea kayak, and relax in the peaceful setting of the beautiful Sunshine Coast.
