So Dave, A HUGE THANK YOU!!!It was just 8 weeks ago I was sitting on the Sandy crying and freaked out to do a tiny little rapid that I now run backwards and don’t even paddle half the time. It blew my mind on the drive home last night thinking about that day and what I was doing yesterday. I couldn’t have done that without your help. You rock Dave – I can’t thank you enough!
You have a hell of an instructor in Dave, man, you need to keep him around. I also wanted to thank you for all the help you gave me while I was there, with you and Dave and Chris and everyone I was able to progress much further than I thought possible in such a small amount of time. I wake up every morning and look out at the lake and wish I was out there paddling, I think I'm actually having withdrawls..
I am truly inspired by your ability in not only paddling, but also teaching.
Sam was concise, articulate, professional, confident, and perceptive… The class presented a concise but very appropriate quantity and quality of information about instruction and paddling technique.
Sam’s skill as a boater and extensive experience was extremely helpful for numerous tips and explanations of technique. He obviously subscribes to a “safety first” philosophy. This experience was helpful in terms of my confidence of the instruction, as well as feeling like I am learning things the “right” way. Excellent course.
I really liked the discussions during our class. They drew a lot of different answers from everyone, which brought out new perspectives etc. The certification process was definitely accurate, and of high quality.
Sam did a great job overall…he is infinitely qualified and a warm, open minded instructor. I appreciated his personal involvement with each student- he gave good, individual contact and feedback.
I always felt extremely safe in everything we did. Sam was made everything very clear, he is a very safety conscious instructor, I got that feeling the first day of class.
He was always willing to discuss any questions we might have had during presentations and feedback.
The conferences were great! I liked the way they were interactive- keeping us all on our toes and awake. I also liked how you asked everyone for feedback- which was helpful in developing our critical eye and making us think what we would do differently.
The development process was again, great! I thought the classroom material was great. The materials provided were perfect. The balance of information presented on the river and in the classroom was perfect.
Logistics were Peerrfect! The certification process was the most quality and accuracy I’ve seen yet… Extremely thorough… The course was more than I imagined.
I really appreciated your style of constructive criticism. It is a very effective way to convey such technical information. I also feel that it was not only accurate, but appropriate.
I feel that the challenges presented to us as a group as well as individually were great ways of allowing us to develop without even realizing it.
Much detail was given to stressing the importance of a safe teaching environment. I found the flat water aspect to be educational and it really brought out the subtlies.
Excellent! You are an excellent instructor. I think everyone here, including myself, learned a lot and will forever be a better paddler.
I appreciate the immediate feedback, and good job describing possible hazards, especially with particular strokes so we would not injure ourselves or future clients.
Conferences were presented in a way that helped me and the group. You seemed to sense when we all needed to discuss things as a group.
All in all I feel like I am learning this course with not only a better understanding of teaching kayaking, but also a much better understanding of the sport itself. I learned a ton, thanks a lot.
Tons of information. Still processing… Great information that will help my paddling.
Great emphasis on making good judgments.
Everything met my expectations and more. You really hammered home to me the importance of safety when kayaking. That is the most important part of being an instructor.
The logistics flowed smoothly. I am especially grateful to you for catering to our schedules. I especially liked the challenges you put us up to on the river. I think that improved my paddling a lot.
The quality of the information was wonderful. I learned a ton of good technical vocabulary and the quantity was huge…Safety was always first, no matter what! That made me feel very comfortable knowing how safe Sam was being.
I would recommend all of my friends take this class from Justin and Sam.
It was made really clear that we need to be constantly on top of preparation especially concerning personal preparation… I learned (flat water) it’s a lot harder than it seems I thought the course was of high quality, well thought out and prepared.
The content was great. The progression makes a lot of sense to me. This will really help my paddling.
I felt completely safe during the course, and I am a complete scaredy-cat. Very professional. I learned so much. Quality was #1.
I think Sam is one of the finer people I have met in the paddling community. Your skills are not only phenomenal but your ability to teach and demonstrate those skills is incredible.
I attended the Women's Creeking Class last Saturday and it was....well, just awesome. The instructors at eNRG were very professional, informative and safety-conscious. eNRG took video and still shots for analysis after we got off the water. What a great learning tool! (And there was some entertaining boater-cross footage too...um...sorry again about that Lori :-). Before getting on the water, Sam, Raychel, Jim and Brian covered a lot of important creeking topics, such as outfitting your creekboat, pin kits and rescue situations. We also covered some fun topics like boofing and teamwork. On the water (and before we got to the big rapids) we practiced eddy-turns(boy,did we practice our eddy turns) and other strokes. Then we hit the big rapids on the Upper Wind...it was so much fun! We took our time scouting and learning about reading water. There was always the option to portage. We continued to practice drills after we got through the Class III/IV rapids. We spent 6 hours on the water that day, and that doesn't include the instruction before and after class! Overall, I think everyone had a great day on the river. We did have a little carnage, but the instructors were right there to help. I personally learned the most from the video analysis at the end of the day. I highly recommend the class for anyone who wants to get into creeking. Thanks eNRG
